Watching the gogglebox

Watching TV is as easy as pressing the power button on the remote, really. But for more info, here's the Virgin guide to using the remote control.

cooking up a storm

If you can’t get the cooker to turn on at all, a previous guest has probably accidentally turned the induction hob safety lock on. With the safety lock on, all of the controls are disabled except the on/off control. So first of all, make sure you’ve switched the hob on. Then, touch and hold the keyhole icon for a while to unlock the hob, et voilà! Working rings.

If you wish to lock the hob to prevent children from turning the cooker rings on, touch the keyhole icon for a few seconds until the indicator shows ‘Lo’. Still not working? Then perhaps, like another past guest, you’ve brought your own cooking pans and they’re aluminium or copper-bottomed. For the hotplates to work, pans need to be steel.

Please refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for full guidance on using the hob and oven.

help, the electrics have tripped and it's dark in here!

Don't worry, you'll just need to flip the switch on the fuse board to get everything working again. You'll find it in the little cupboard behind the dining table.

Please drop us a text to let us know which appliances or lightbulbs you were using when it happened and, of course, if you're having any difficulties, we'll get back to you ASAP!

Bins

If you fill the garbage bag under the sink and need to take out the trash, you'll want to know where our big bins are kept. Come out of the external door of the flat and walk up to the main entrance gates. The bins are on your left at the top of the drive.

The green bins are for recycling (not glass).

The black bins are for general waste/food waste.

The brown bin is for garden waste only.

Heating

The standard heating settings are: on in the morning, down low during the day and on again for the evening from about 16:30. But we can easily tailor the time and temperature to suit you. Just let me know what you need and I’ll tap your settings into my app.

If you're feeling the cold, just turn up the knob on the radiator and that should be fine - the building is super-insulated, so don’t overdo it or you’ll end up opening the windows and heating the environment!

Heating not working? Check for a battery indicator on the radiator thermostat first and let me know. I’ll either bring you a new battery or call an engineer!

Hot water

At peak times (07:00 to 09:00 and 17:00 to 19:00 week days) and for most of the day on weekends, we pump hot water directly to you. If you turn on the tap, it’ll come through in a few secs.

To save energy, we turn off the pump outside these times, but that doesn’t mean there’s no hot water. There’s always hot water; you'll just need to turn the bath and sink taps on in the bathroom at the same time (to the hot direction) and leave them running for up to 5 mins to draw the hot water through to you. Quirk of the system!

Having said all that, we can easily set the pump to suit your schedule. If you’re working shifts, for example, or you like to have your shower before bed at 11pm, just let us know and we’ll change the settings for you.

TAKE THE SECRET PATH TO WAITROSE

If we're going it alone, we tend not to use this short cut after dark (because we're scaredy-cats and it's kinda spooky), but it's the fastest way to get to the Meanwood shops/restaurants on foot.

Walk out of our electric gates, turn left and directly left again down the footpath that runs along the rear side of the Hideaway flatlets. Cross a little bridge over the beck, pass the entrance to the park on your left and then, a little further along, take the left fork in the path up the 'ginnel' (passageway) which leads you to Green Road. Turn right at the top of the ginnel and keep going until you see Waitrose on your right hand side. Aldi is a little further on, across the road in a precinct of shops.

Towels

We’re trying our best to be environmentally conscious and reduce our energy usage, so we only provide a set amount of towels for your stay.

However, if you need more towels, please don't hesitate to ask.

Want to extend your stay?

Are you enjoying your stay and you'd love to stay on for an extra day or more? Does your work look like it's going to extend beyond your original number of nights? Have a look at the availability for your flatlet and, if there are free days on our calendar at the end of your reservation, you're more than welcome to book them.

However, because the minimum stay on our booking system is four days (to allow us to cope with the laundry and cleaning), you won't be able to book a couple of days online. Please drop Jackie a text and she'll override the system for you.

Lost property

If you accidentally leave some of your belongings behind when you check out, don't worry. We never throw anything away. Just send us a message or an email and we'll arrange to post it to you... or we can hold onto it for you until your next visit.
